You Raise Me Up was written and first performed in 2001 by a duo called Secret Garden (Rolf Loyland and Brendan Graham) and was a track on their album entitled Once in a Red Moon. The first time the song was performed was at the funeral of Rolf Loyland’s mother. The song was a minor hit. In 2003 it was covered by American singer Josh Groban and in 2005 by Westlife. Both of these versions featured one verse and the refrain, although two verses were actually written.
